Standardized Corrugated Common Footprint,
a sensible choice for shipping,
an added plus to the unique advantages of corrugated |
 |
The
Canadian Corrugated Case Association (CCCA), along with other players
in the North American corrugated packaging industry, is well aware
of the emerging trends in produce distribution and the need to develop
a modular packaging system for the produce industry.
This need was met with the development of a voluntary Corrugated Common
Footprint Standard for the North American Corrugated industry. (The
standard applies to corrugated containers used to ship produce from
the growing or initial packing location to the retail location, although
its reach is expanding to Case Ready meats and other products.) |
This
voluntary standard establishes industry compatibility and provides
a uniform platform for ongoing design creativity to satisfy individual
customer marketing/distribution needs.
In brief, the Corrugated Common Footprint benefits Growers/Shippers
by retaining economical, low-cost packaging solutions and recyclability,
optimizing cube utilization, ensuring product protection through custom
design, and offering a wide variety of box designs and material constructions. |
| But
the footprint goes further. For the Retailer/Distributor, it decreases
labour costs in the distribution centre and the retail store by reducing
training and handling requirements. In addition, it facilitates distribution
for global sourcing since the standard is compatible with the European
Federation of Corrugated Board Manufacturers’ (FEFCO) Common
Footprint Standard for boxes produced in Europe. |
In
essence, the common footprint reduces shrink by limiting the need
to handle the product in store and provides display-ready options
including direct-to-display tables, special displays and end caps.
And, last but not least, for the consumer, it delivers consistently
fresher, more attractively displayed produce, while reducing the handling
of product before it reaches the store. |
